“I love taking photos, embroidery and precious stories that are from another time and using them to create a new contemporary piece of art”
Bushra Khanum Nabi is an embroiderer in Birmingham, England. Bushra has been producing work in relation to culture and tradition within her family. Her work glamorises the passing of traditions and family history and shows whether or not the culture and tradition has changed overtime or not. She explores the importance of how family traditions and culture are important and valued by her. The artist’s work is highly influced by the older generation of women within the family and how they used embroidery in their daily lives. Her practice in inspired by the tradition on embroidery passing down through generations within her family. Working primarily doing stitching and embroidery her work addresses the stories of her family and the importance of the tradition passing down to her. Her work glamorises the stories about her family to show the beauty behind the idea of tradition.
